I am delighted to introduce you to Mr Lucius Longtail. As a kitten growing up on a sleepy farming estate in Surrey, Lucius was infamous for his habit of sneaking out in the wee hours to explore the neighboring gardens and barns. Much to the chagrin of the head gardeners’ and his own mother cat, nothing deterred Lucius from his explorations and perambulations.
When dear Lucius was still a young kitty but not quite a kitten, he met and joined the adventures of the famed explorer, Colonel Aloysius Granville. Unlike many of his contemporaries, the Colonel was not interested in exploring the coldest, harshest climbs of the Arctic circle. Instead, he was delighted to search the world for the rarest tea bushes and herbs.
Lucius displayed an early talent for finding the most direct pathway–though not always the safest!–to their target and for being able to always find his way home. His noteworthy tail was so long and elegant that it provided the perfect balance to Lucius in even the trickiest of climbs. He traveled to all corners of the globe with his human and even assisted as a messenger kitty in times of conflict and tribulation.
As an elder cat, he retired to the Sonoran Desert with the Colonel, where he lived out his days in sunny naps and hikes through the saguaros. Lucius never lost his love of exploration, but as he grew white about the whiskers, his natures walks increasingly close to home and his elderly human. After the Colonel’s passing, Lucius treated the cemetery as his own personal garden and found his last, best nap location in the Colonel’s mausoleum.
A fine salute for this devoted adventure kitty!
