May Steampunk Book Chat

Sunday, May 10th, at 4:30 PM Pacific (Seattle/Tucson)–7:30 PM Eastern (Montreal/Atlanta)

Our monthly book chat is nearly upon us! We’re discussing the riveting novella collection Tales from the Gunpowder Chronicles by Jeannie Lin , set in the world of her novel Gunpowder Alchemy. I highly recommend the series if you have not yet read it. The series is bursting with wonderful characters and engrossing storytelling.

Jeannie Lin is also a prolific author of Historical Romances. She knows how to craft a character driven story and to keep her readers hooked. I appreciate her pacing and her nuanced characters, but I must admit that I really adore her use of history to infuse her all of her fiction, from Fantasy to Science Fiction, with a vivid sense of verisimilitude. The Gunpowder Chronicles take us, as her readers, on an adventure through the Chinese Empire during the Opium Wars. Her story breaks through the British Imperial version of these events and welcomes readers into the experience of the people who lived, worked, and endured these tumultuous times in China.

Whilst the author is not able to join us this month, we have had the pleasure of speaking with Jeannie Lin in the past, for one of our earliest virtual book chats. Of course, we shall still have a marvelous discussion. Please join us for our lively chit chat! I encourage you to bring your own questions about the book. Naturally, I always want to know about your favourite characters, but when it comes to fiction inspired by real history, I am certain to have even more questions about the storytelling.

Book chat starts at 4:30 PM Pacific (Seattle/Tucson) — 7:30 PM Eastern (Atlanta/Montreal) on Sunday May 10th. For the best experience, please join us in our virtual tea parlour on zoom or follow along on our YouTube channel. (We are unable to stream to multiple platforms for our book chat.) This is my happy little reminder that you never need to finish the book to join us for our monthly chat, but there may be spoilers.
